Art opening & Board game night

Come and join us for a night filled with good food, art, and games!

Every month, Tankstation features a different artist and provides them with a space where they can exhibit their artworks, whether they are photographs, installations, or paintings: we definitely have a soft spot for artsy people and projects (did you see our "art corner"?)! The art exhibition of this month is called "The Knotted Entity" and the opening is at 19:30, followed by a talk from the artist, Désiré de Lacy, at 20:00. Not only art, though! Board Game nights are back at Tankstation! Whether you’re all about the strategy of chess or the thrill of a poker hand, Board Game nights have been created to give you a cozy space to unwind, laugh, and just have a good time with old (or new!) friends. No matter if you’re a seasoned pro or just there for the drinks, it’s all about the fun and the connection! Sooo...who’s in for some friendly competition?

P.S. We have refreshed our board game collection, but feel free to bring your favourite game!

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

The exhibition is a combination of video and installation work as a response and a way to showcase dialogues with the artist. The dialogues ranges from emotional violence to boundaries with friends.

In the artist's words:

"This exhibition is a response to themes emerging from different dialogues across separate cultural and time landscapes. The first section of dialogues took place in 2017, Pretoria, South Africa and the second took place in 2023, Enschede, The Netherlands.

The dialogues touches upon a variation of themes, such as physical, sexual and psychological violence. It's an invitation to contemplate trauma not as just a singular event but also the nuances of it and how mental, physical and societal experiences impacts us. It is a way of sitting with vulnerable stories and opinions in a curated space, where the viewer and participants are aware of the heavy subjects that are brought to the forefront.

Knotted Entity is not intended to represent the myriad of traumatic experiences, but offers glimpses into some of the facets of trauma, violence, narrative and the opinions thereof.

This exhibition, like all traumatic experiences are not linear or focused upon conclusions. Rather it is something which has grown from conversations and experiences; some components developed by chance and some by design"

There is a conflict between the will to deny horrible events and to scream it out aloud, Judith Herman (1992).
